For me the image does transport a decisive moment there however is no motion, no person. What makes it possible to feel a decisive moment without those elements? ![]() One part can be found in the light... the light here is something like the saying that you can not step in the same river twice... On the other hand we're left alone with the question if there is someone out there in the light. Will the person show up in the image in a moment or did someone just disappear... you never will know what I saw. The decisive moment solely exist in our imagination, we see something what is not there: an imaginary decisive moment! Jun 05, 2010A more soft portrait from BurmaWe arrived in Sittwe in the west of Burma late afternoon. During the daytime there was an solar eclipse and the street was full of emotions and excitement. I took an incredible number of images of the people in the street, this girl has been following me and definitively wanted to pose as well. This portrait definitively is more soft and less intense as the previous one. ![]() The girl wears traditional Thanaka face paint which is worn as decoration and sun block. Jun 01, 2010new moment.. one year ago in Aleppo, another moment, another street. Enjoy! ![]() May 30, 2010سورية - حلب - May 2009Another decisive moment or 3 and a half..... ![]() May 29, 2010سورية - حلب - May 2009A decisive moment from Aleppo (Syria). ![]() May 24, 2010A first impression from BurmaThere still are images from Syria in the pipeline, this one is just a preview from the trip to Burma earlier this year. I met this homeless boy on the fish market in Sittwe, it seems he was not really welcome there... He was shy, afraid of the adults, isolated. It took me some time to convince him to pose for a portrait at this unfriendly place. He was standing there with some dignity, showing a difficult life. Besides some friendliness he got some money, at least that morning he must have had a good start in the day. ![]() I worked hard on my b&w technique, my target was to not have such a clean digital image with just good tones. The final image has some (digital) grain, toning and I am happy about the sharpening result. Normally I am not the one to talk about technique but I found some great hints last days: - The sharpening workflow is described at Earthbound Light. - The (digital) grain was taken from Nikos Kantarakias. - The concept for toning I found in the blog of George Barr. Grain was applied after the sharpening, I think grain should not be sharpened. Thanks for the inspiration! May 11, 2010Syria - Sarouj - May 2009![]() During the Syria trip I visited a small village with Beehive houses (one on the background of the building), it was empty and nobody seems to be at home. Then the girl showed up and waved to come in for a tea. Mar 12, 2010Mar 11, 2010A decisive moment in SyriaStreets in Syria were too full for me, I did manage some portrait (see previous posts) but I just have a few shots from the streets. Jul 28, 2009Too heavy![]() These days I am lazy and do not find too much time to work on the huge amount of material I have from Cuba. To give a sign of life today a streetshot from Habana. Jun 12, 2009Street magicafter a break of some weeks (we where traveling and visited Syria) I today continue with some more street shots from Cuba. ![]() May 13, 2009New work? This is the only post this month, sure I do have a lot more to show from Cuba. Other activities prevented me to be more productive and we are leaving for our next trip to Syria. ![]() Apr 18, 2009Mixing with the crowdsYesterday I showed some photographs which I took while mixing in a crowd. To do that there was a barrier of hesitation to be taken. During our stay in Santiago de Cuba I saw this crowd of musicians, the way they where playing was extremely emotional. A strong moment to mix again with a crowd. ![]() Apr 17, 2009Talking about national sportYesterday I mentioned that besides chess in Cuba Domino is an elementary part in Cuban life. Besides this baseball as a "real" sport is very popular. In Habana we saw men talking about baseball very intensively in a square. I mixed between them and could take some wonderful portraits. Normally for portraits I ask permission, in this case asking was not possible. They saw me and they accepted me taking some wonderful portraits. ![]() Usually I show just one photograph a day, this series needs to be shown together and as an exception to the rule today 3 more. ![]() ![]() ![]() Apr 15, 2009Lost in mountains of musicthese boys lost something.. ![]() .. they did not found what they where looking for. Here another one... ![]() Enough material for a "dogs category" of the blog. Apr 13, 20092 triangles![]() There are 2 triangles in this street-shot, one a positive and another one a negative shape. Apr 12, 2009Another street shot from La Habana![]() I was busy last days... or maybe I should just say I did not found the inspiration to select the right photographs for the blog. Sometimes to find inspiration is difficult, I bought a new camera... it seems to be very complicated, since 3 weeks I did not took a single reasonable photograph with it. Well, next days I will try to post more from our trip to Cuba earlier this year. Mar 26, 2009Some street shotsAs mentioned before, I not only took portraits in Cuba. Today I show you a result of my "experiments" in street photography. ![]() Mar 16, 2009Back again with another dog![]() I have quite a lot of work to be shown here, however last days some unplanned activities took place, therefore things went a bit slower than weeks before. Next days more frequent posts here. Mar 05, 2009More street photography from CubaLet's continue with some more street photography.. ![]() By the way, I did some management on the categories (in the side bar on the left and on top of each posting) now they should be usable to show postings with content of a similar type. Mar 04, 2009Another dogToday another dog in the street. ![]() Nice shirt! Mar 03, 2009Street photographyIn Cuba I did some first steps towards street photography. ![]() What is the dog looking at? We never will know, I followed the dog after taking this photograph and did not look into the building. Feb 26, 2009Padre Pico

Feb 21, 2009What has been changed?... quite a lot of (photographic details) have been changed since I returned from Cuba. Work from there is no longer only in square format, the format is chosen more related to the content. Besides this, the subjects of my photography are also street shots and the sepia toning disappeared. Bellow another "street" shot: ![]() Quite a lot of changes, I feel comfortable about them, what do you think? |
