Originating in 1975, Paducah Photo has grown from a fledgling contest to the Mid-South's most prestigious annual photographic event.

This year's juror is Michael Johnson is a Professor of Art at Murray State University and Director of "Magic Silver", one of the largest international juried photography exhibitions. Johnson has been teaching photography at MSU for 37 years.

The Paducah Photo '10 Exhibition will be held at the Yeiser Art Center, 200 Broadway and will run from June 19 through July 24.

I do have my difficulties to choose photo's from Cuba for the Blog, today a streetshot and... Tomorrow a slideshow with Streets of Cuba! (Promised!!)

After years of maintenance quite a lot of things still are working in Cuba, Trains however today are not a good way to travel; they either are delayed or canceled. We tried to book a ticket but everybody told us to take the bus.. I took this photograph and we went for a bus to leave La Habana.

...it's a matter of seeing and pressing the button on the decisive moment (and of course to be there at the right time)

What should I say? just a nice corner and a nice moment in La Habana.

These days I am lazy and do not find too much time to work on the huge amount of material I have from Cuba. To give a sign of life today a streetshot from Habana.

In my portraits you normally have the chance to look at a person, this man however also seems to look at you.

Last days... weeks I was busy processing all the material from Cuba. I had so much photo's to process. Now I am more or less done and will become more active posting results in the blog.

This man we met in La Habana, he was selling puppies with his friend. The paper in his hand was the certificate that business was allowed.

after a break of some weeks (we where traveling and visited Syria) I today continue with some more street shots from Cuba.

This is the only post this month, sure I do have a lot more to show from Cuba. Other activities prevented me to be more productive and we are leaving for our next trip to Syria.

Yesterday I showed some photographs which I took while mixing in a crowd. To do that there was a barrier of hesitation to be taken. During our stay in Santiago de Cuba I saw this crowd of musicians, the way they where playing was extremely emotional. A strong moment to mix again with a crowd.

Yesterday I mentioned that besides chess in Cuba Domino is an elementary part in Cuban life. Besides this baseball as a "real" sport is very popular. In Habana we saw men talking about baseball very intensively in a square. I mixed between them and could take some wonderful portraits. Normally for portraits I ask permission, in this case asking was not possible. They saw me and they accepted me taking some wonderful portraits.

Usually I show just one photograph a day, this series needs to be shown together and as an exception to the rule today 3 more.

Besides chess the national board-game in Cuba is Domino. Look at all the expressions of the men playing, watching and commenting.

.. they did not found what they where looking for. I think the boys and the mural are a nice repetition.

for some reason I returned home from Cuba with quite a lot of dogs in the photographs.

Well, next days I will try to post more from our trip to Cuba earlier this year.

As mentioned before, I not only took portraits in Cuba. Today I show you a result of my "experiments" in street photography.

In Trinidad we visited this retired gardener in his home.

This is not just a portrait of a lady from Cuba, look at the white chair... it has been repaired with wood. In Cuba people are master in keeping things functional for a maximum time.

It is quite a-typical for me to publish more than one portrait from the same person. Sometimes however, exceptions have to be made.

Compared to yesterday's photograph this one shows more of the house where we where invited. The portrait orientation of this photographs makes it not really fit to the design of the blog. This was the reason that yesterday I decided to publish a landscape portrait, after sleeping one night I felt I should sow the version you see now as well.

I have quite a lot of work to be shown here, however last days some unplanned activities took place, therefore things went a bit slower than weeks before. Next days more frequent posts here.

This boy was playing in the entrance of a building. In his private baseball training he was throwing a ball against the wall.

During our trip I did some first steps in street photography. We therefore walked a lot in cities. Of course eye was on the street but also inside buildings. This proud girl and her brother where playing with a hoop in the entrance of a building.

Tomorrow another shot into an entrance...

Let's continue with some more street photography..

By the way, I did some management on the categories (in the side bar on the left and on top of each posting) now they should be usable to show postings with content of a similar type.

In Cuba I did some first steps towards street photography.

What is the dog looking at? We never will know, I followed the dog after taking this photograph and did not look into the building.
