Starting people photography in Mali

22:32:27 (CET), Categories: Photos, B&W, People, Mali

I have been quite busy last days, there are a lot of photographs on the stack to be sorted for publication.

During our vacation in Mali, I started to take photographs of people. I never took photographs of strangers before. This man is Hamadi Mama Cisse, Chef de Village of Sénossa close to Djenné. We were invited in his house had a chat and had an intensive look at his collection of post cards from all around the world. After a while time was right and I asked if I could make some photo's, Mr. Hamadi was more than pleased and was willing to move a bit to have a nice background and being lit by the light shining through the door.

When he saw first results he insisted to have a photograph made with his youngest son as well. This attracted the other children and Mr. Hamadi became angry because of the noise which explains his expression on the photograph bellow. After the shooting session (I will send him some by post) we went out for a shared lunch which was a nice experience. His wifes (yes plural) did not share lunch but after lunch wanted to be on a photograph as well.
