Apr 01, 2012Burma - The Moustache Brothers (New Gallery)Today, I present a slide show of a Moustache Brothers live performance. The Moustache Brothers are a comedic trio from Mandalay, Burma. They are well known for their live performances and specially for their sharply satirical criticism of the totalitarian Burmese military regime. Have a look at a home performance of the brothers and listen to Lu Maw talking about three generations of comedians and what happens after a performance at the home of Aung San Suu Kyi.
Elections have been held today in Burma... We hope there is more no more "old wine in a new bottle" as Lu Maw said at the end of the slide show. Currently it looks a step into the right direction. More slide shows can be seen in the galleries selection of the website. 6 comments

to help people in Myanmar. I have seen the mustache brothers in Mandalay in 2000. Michael Mittermeier, Comedian aus Bayern hat einen Film über die Kabarettszene und Comedian (Maung Thura, Zarganar) in Myanmar gemacht und unterstützt viele Projekte in Burma. Mehr Info hier. Hier ein paar Notizen von unserem Urlaub damals: ... Beziehungen zu bekommen, aber irgendwie ist es dann doch für den übernächsten Tag gegangen. Der Zug war rumpelig von 4 Uhr nachmittags bis zum nächsten Morgen um 7 Uhr. Etliche mal der Strom ausgefallen, was den Ventilator über mir stoppen ließ. Abendessen im Speisewagen, allerdings nicht so besonders. und In Mandalay hamma eine Vorstellung der "Moustache Brother" angeschaut: Eine Mischung aus klassischen birmesischem Theater und politischen Kabarett. Die Folge ist, daß einer der Brüder in politischer Haft sitzt, zu 7 Jahren verurteilt wegen einem Witz. Früher wurde Theater gespielt auf Volksfesten, die ganze Nacht. Viele Grüße, Toni
